ECO COMMITTEE

November 20 2013

The Nursery has a well-established Eco committee that is made up of Nursery staff, children and parents.

Over the past two years we have implemented a range of initiatives to raise an awareness of the importance of educating our children about caring for and respecting the environment.
We are pleased to announce that we now have been awarded our 2nd Eco flag, after our very successful inspection at the end of November. This inspection recognised that the children play a key role in all Eco activities as well as encouraging them to have a voice when it comes to decision making. They were also particularly impressed by our food waste chart and Eco floor book as a fantastic record of the children’s involvement. Well done to everyone involved.

Moving On
Looking forward to the coming year we have identified a range of tasks that are highlighted on our eco tree, which has been made by the support for learning students from New College Lanarkshire and is situated in the main corridor. Red leaves identify work tasks. Yellow leaves working on, and Green leaves are achieved tasks. One of our more challenging activities is the development of a growing and planting allotment on site. We would be grateful for any help from parents, carers or extended family who have any expertise in this area, whether it be identifying and sourcing equipment to sewing/planting seeds and harvesting crops, help in any of these areas would be very much appreciated. For further information please feel free to contact any member of the Eco team identified on the Eco tree or call the Nursery on 01698 232285.
