WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS WEEK

February 21 2017

Autism awareness week runs from 27th March till 2nd of April 2017. As part of this we will be displaying lots of information all about this to build people’s awareness and their understanding of the unique talents and abilities which people with autism have. Advice will also be offered as a further support to children and families about strategies, what help is available within the community and who they can talk to when they need it. As you may be aware we have three ASD link facilitators within this establishment and a parent who has two autistic children of her own who is keen to reach out and work with others to offer advice and help where people need this. We will also soon be organising a fun filled charity day to support the National Autistic Society in lines with this.

CHANGES TO OUR 3-5 AREA

February 20 2017

You may have noticed some big changes happening within our 3-5 areas of the nursery. The rooms have now been opened up to create some large defined areas for children to explore. The feedback from the children and parents has been very positive so far with the children really enjoying the whole experience. We look forward to seeing the areas develop further in the coming months and appreciate any feedback from our parents and carers which they feel would enhance and improve this in the future.

PLAY ON PEDALS

February 19 2017

As most of you are aware we run a Play on Pedals programme within the 3-5 areas of the Nursery. As part of this Children learn about the parts of a bicycle, how to fit a helmet correctly and the basics of looking after their bikes. Through a series of fun and imaginative activities, they are helped to develop their balance and control skills, using a pedal-less balance bike. When ready, children will then get the opportunity to move onto a pedal bike. All sessions and games are designed to support confidence, interactive learning and the development of physical skills. Play on Pedals training is a fantastic pre-cursor to the Bikeability Scotland training that is delivered in many primary schools. This programme has been running successfully for over a year now and will continue to be on offer every year. At the beginning of the new school year (August) an email will be sent to all parents with the new arrangements and they can reply to this or speak to Carolyne (Rooms 11 & 12) or Jennifer (Rooms 9 & 10) personally if they are interested in their child participating. We aim to include as many children as possible and each child will participate for 6 weeks (1 hour per week).
